Enrollment & Back to School
We are off to a great start at AMS! Our current enrollment is 218 students:
6th Grade: 72 students
7th Grade: 70 students
8th Grade: 76 students
We have also welcomed several new faces to our Middle School family this year. Our new staff members include Johnna Kinslow, 6th Grade ELA; Coach Braden Shaw, 7th Grade Geography; Coach Sabetha Sands, 7th Grade Science; Coach Jaiveon Gardner, 6th Grade Geography; and Mrs. Ambri Fuller, paraprofessional. We are excited to have them at OMS!
We are also sending out a weekly newsletter to all of our students and families this year. Our goal is to keep families informed about upcoming events, important reminders, student activities, athletics, and everything happening around AMS.
Building & Facility Updates
Our Middle School received a little facelift over the summer! The hallways and doors were painted, and the building is looking fresh and ready for another school year.
Unfortunately, our library flooded over the summer, which required us to relocate our librarian, Mrs. Trisha Bain, to a new location near the office. We had an abundance of help from our staff and students, even in the middle of summer, to get everything moved. We are very thankful for everyone who jumped in to help.
We also made several improvements to our athletic facilities this summer. Our softball field was a major focus. The chain link backstop was replaced with netting, the batting cages were covered to match our baseball facilities, and new backstop padding was installed.
Our gymnasium also received a new, more functional scorer's table.
New Opportunities for Students
We are excited to offer several new opportunities for our students this school year. Horticulture has been added as a new elective, giving students a hands-on opportunity to learn about growing plants, working in our greenhouse, and helping beautify our campus.
We are also offering 6th grade softball and baseball for the first time this year, giving our younger students another opportunity to get involved in Bearcat athletics.
Athletics
Our Summer Pride program had an excellent turnout this summer, with an estimated 100 Junior High and High School athletes participating each day. Our coaching staff has poured a tremendous amount of time and energy into our students, programs, and facilities this summer. Their work is very much noticed and appreciated.
Today is the home opener for both Junior High and High School softball, and we are excited to get the fall season underway. Football is not too far behind!
We are also excited about our new Hudl platform. Fans will soon be able to watch our games online free of charge. We will be sharing more information with our families and community soon on how to access the broadcasts.
We are excited about the year ahead and very happy to have our students back in the building. It has been a great start to the school year!
